Racism here at Kos

Sun Jan 06, 2008 at 03:00:19 PM PDT

Yup, I'm going there.  Maybe it is too soon.  I have been known to do that.  And my heart is pounding in fear, but I believe more in honest heartfelt dialog than I do in fear.

NY 3rd C.D Peter King Out-Dave Mejias In

Mon Jun 26, 2006 at 03:58:54 PM PDT

The Democrats have picked a candidate for the 3rd Congressional District.  This seat has been held by Peter King (R)since 1992.  My first memory of Peter King is as a man who has been pushing for an English only Federal Policy for years.  He is the Chairman of the Committe on Homeland Security and has voted against a lot of that funding!  We all know how well he has supported getting the First Responders in getting better communication equipment that they need.
He is also pretty nasty towards any constituents that disagree with him.

Torture as Educational Policy?

Tue Jun 06, 2006 at 05:39:24 PM PDT

In the state of Massachusets these things are illegal:
"spanking, pinching, forcing to taste aversives(vinegar mix, jalepeno peppers or hot sauce), witholding food, forcing to smell ammonia, spraying water to the face, forcing to listen to static noise through specially designed helmets, and the use of a Graduated Electronic Decelerator(GED), which simply put is a shocking device that delivers ajolt to the student of up to 65 volts of electricity through remote control.  These aversives are sometimes administered while the patient has their hands and feet restrained."
Unless you are handicapped, and then it's OK.
Especially at the Judge Rotenberg Center.

Update ! ACTION ALERT: Torture as an Educational Tool

Mon Jun 05, 2006 at 07:44:45 PM PDT

"spanking, pinching, forcing to eat taste aversives (vinegar mix, jalapeno peppers, or hot sauce), withholding food, forcing to smell ammonia, spraying water to the face, forcing to listen to static noises through specially designed helmets, and their trade mark method, the use of the Graduated Electronic Decelerator (GED), which simply put is a shocking device that delivers a jolt to the student/patient of up to 65 volts of electricity through remote control. These aversives are sometimes administered while the patient has their hands and feet restrained."

Special Needs

Tue May 30, 2006 at 09:54:54 AM PDT

Just sayin'.  I'm nervous as I write this, but as is my habit I will throw myself out there and whatever happens; happens.
I have been working with Special Needs students for more than 25 years. (I'm so old!)  I am a Special Education teacher.
I also have been through a lot of this as a parent.
I particularly love kids with Autism.
If there are any Kossaks(sp)out there who are in need, I would be happy to support you in any way that I could.  If you'rs struggling, have questions, just let me know.  If I can be helpful, I certainly will try.
Just sayin'

Just gave the DCC an earful

Thu May 18, 2006 at 09:47:09 AM PDT

I just got a call from the DCC.  They wanted to ask for money.
I asked if the gentleman had a pen.
"70% of Americans believe that the war in Iraq is a mistake and needs to end.  We think the budget defecit is a disgrace.  We believe that the NSA spying scandal is uncontitutional.
We want leaders who are fighting, not getting along to go along.  Listen to John Murtha and Russ Feingold.  I'm giving my money to the DNC.  Take care".

NY 3rd Congressional District Let's get busy! w poll!

Sun May 07, 2006 at 06:24:06 PM PDT

Today I attended a rally to kick off the campaign for David Denenberg.  He is a local Democratic Nassau County legislator who is going up against Peter King here on Long Island in the 3rd Congressional District.
We will be looking for folks who live in the area who are willing take on the 50 state fight and get to work.  Even if you have family who lives on Long Island call them and give them the contact email.  Tell them it's time to get involved while we still have a democracy to fight for.
Update: Tonight was supposed to be the first organizational meeting...Denenberg backed out. Health problems; he may need to have throat surgery this summer and unable to talk for several weeks. On top of not starting early enough to fundraise, he didn't think he coulce pull it off. This was almost as bad as Nov 2204 the day after. I will look for the next candidate. I will work my ass off to dump Peter King.

terrorism threat? What a surprise!

Thu Oct 06, 2005 at 03:10:03 PM PDT

Ok, So I live in New York; guess what?  There is a heightened terroist alert for the New York subway system!  But it's only an orange alert, not a red alert.
Do you think maybe Karl needed some cover before his Grand Jury appointment?  This just reeks of the same nonsense from before the election.  Oh yeah, let's not forget that George mande his BIG terrorism speech this morning.  What a f**king coincidence.
It just doesn't stop.
